Editing Your Page

Forgot how to edit your wiki page?  This page should help.  Do NOT ask me questions, read the directions below.

 

  • Links: 
    • To add a link using the actual text of the webpage address:
      • Paste the address of the page you want to make into a link
      • Highlight it
      • Click on the little button with the earth and a paperclip
      • Select URL from the "Link Type" menu
      • Paste in your URL again
      • Click okay
      • Try out your link after saving the page  
    • To add a link using other text than the webpage address:
      • Type the word or phrase you want to turn into a link
      • Highlight it
      • Click on the little button with the Earth and a paperclip
      • Select the URL from the "Link Type" menu
      • Paste or type in the URL you want to make the link to
      • Click okay
      • Try out your link after saving the page 
    • To add a link to a wiki page:
      • Type the name of the page, a word, or a phrase that you want to turn into a link
      • Highlight it.
      • Click the little button with the Earth and a paperclip
      • Select PBWorks page from the "Link Type" menu (should be the one it comes up)
      • Select the page you want to link to from the list.  You're probably looking for It's Elementary this time around
      • Click okay
      • Try out your link after saving the page

 

  • Adding Pictures
    • Control click on the picture you want.
    • Select "Save Image As..."
    • RENAME your image with a name appropriate to what it is an image of - BE SURE NOT TO DELETE THE .JPEG OR .GIF OR .JPG OR ANYTHING ELSE OFF THE NAME.  That is an extension and without it you WILL NOT be able to use the picture!
    • Save the picture to the desktop (so it is easy to find)
    • When you are editing your page, click Images and Files (to the right hand side of the screen toward the middle)
    • Click upload files (almost right below your last click)
    • Find the picture you saved on your desktop.
    • Click select.
    • Wait for it to upload.
    • Put your cursor where you want your picture to end up
    • Select your image from the Images and Files list (it should be at the top) by clicking its name

 

  • Degree sign
    • Click on the source button
    • Find the place you want to put your degree sign
    • Type or paste in the following:
      • <sup>o</sup>
    • Click on source again
    • Look at your page to make sure the degree sign is in the right place
    • Don't forget to save your page

 

  • Superscript (AKA the Little Number - upper level)
    • Follow the directions above EXCEPT put a three in where there is an oh in the above code.

 

  • Tables:  
    • Put your cursor where you want your table.
    • Click on the table button (right next to the link button)
    • Choose the number of rows and columns you want.
      • I usually select 1 row and 1 column.  This works well for framing pictures or making an area for text that is different from the rest of the page.
      • You could try 1 row and 2 columns if you want to put two pictures of similar size (one in each cell)
    • Choose the alignment you want.
    • Click okay.
    • Your table will be on your screen with a faint gray border and a white background.  It may be hard for you to see.
    • Ctrl + Click on the table.
    • Select Cell from the menu followed by Cell Properties from the next menu.
    • Select the background color you like.
    • You can also select a border color.  The border is very narrow and will not show up well.
    • Click okay.

  • Making additions to your table: 
    • Adding a picture:  
      • Upload your picture as detailed on yesterday's agenda.
      • Click on the table so your see your cursor in it.
      • Click on the name of your picture.
      • Resize your picture and your table until you are happy with it. 
    • Adding text:
      • Click on the table so you see your cursor in it.
      • Type.
      • Change the color and size of the text as you wish.
      •  

  • Subscript (AKA the Little Number - lower level):
    • Click on the source button
    • Find the place you want to put your subscript.
    • Type or paste in the following:
      • <sub>___</sub>
    • The blank should be filled in with the number you want to be in subscript.
    • Click on source again
    • Look at your page to make sure the number is in the right place
    • Don't forget to save your page
